Xcel Program Connects SCMSA to Solar Panels!

“ST. CLOUD — The St. Cloud Math and Science Academy is set to save around $2,000 each year on its Xcel Energy bill, thanks to two solar arrays over 60 miles away in Starbuck.

The charter school teaches a STEM-focused curriculum to students in grades K-6, so when it moved from a rented space to their own building in 2017, the school considered solar energy both to save money and to teach students about renewable energy, said Administrative Assistant Sandi Eikmeier.”

Welcome

to St. Cloud Math and Science Academy; School District 4223

St. Cloud Math and Science Academy is a tuition free public charter school and a STEM school for Kindergarten through sixth grade students.  The school opened its doors as a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) school in September 2014, and every year continues to make learning more engaged through STEM-driven curriculum.  Our school is a small community.  We have two classes for all grades Kindergarten through fifth grades and one class of sixth graders.  Our classes for K-5 have 20 or less students.  Our 6th grade class has 22 or less students.

STEM Education

St. Cloud Math and Science Academy is proud of its focus on STEM Education.  Our students can solve real world problems with hands on STEM activities during our integrated STEM curriculum and STEM events.  We have technology incorporated into all the classrooms and students have the opportunity for instruction in the computer lab on a daily basis.  We have STEM nights three times during the school year.  Our school believes in parent involvement and provides transportation for parents and students to our STEM nights.

Creating Respectful Citizens

Students follow our district’s behavior philosophy focusing on PBIS. (Positive, Behavioral Interventions and Supports) This behavior model focuses on teaching school wide expectations to all students in all settings of the school.  Our school teaches students about the importance of our school community and how each student plays a role in creating a positive environment.  Our school PBIS model focuses on traits of showing respect to yourself, respect to others and respect to our school.  Staff utilize procedures for encouraging expected behavior and procedures for discouraging problem behavior.  St. Cloud Math and Science Academy is a safe, welcoming, and caring community with a lot of “Pike Pride”.

Communication is Key

St. Cloud Math and Science Academy is committed to great family communication.  Our parents are invited to attend parent meetings each trimester during our STEM family nights.   Parent involvement is a priority and transportation is provided for each of these events.  Our families receive regular communication from our teachers and our school uses the JMC phone system to let families know about important events, school assemblies, STEM nights, parent teacher conferences, important health and weather information as well as testing updates.
